Identified points assist visualizing alteration of the position of the glacier front. In 1939 it was possible to measure forward from station X''', located on Rock B, 23 feet. In 1940 the front of this section of the glacier was 16 feet 9 inches behind station X''' (at a point hidden behind Rock A in the lower photograph).
